Happy New Years Yves

I will be a busy girl today running errands, making my appetizer, and getting the last minute things for my outfit together. I will be heading to my friends house early to help her prepare for our party tonight.  2010 flew by as I decorated my new appartment, learned from my new job, got to know a great guy and spent time with my friends and family.  I'm am excited to see what 2011 will bring!

Here are some looks from the YSL Spring 2011 show as we look into the new year:

During this show we saw jumpsuits, safari jackets, peasant tops, trench coats, red lips (also seen in my 20's blog!), lightened eye brows and twisted back hair.  The YSL girl for spring 2011 looks sexy and confident.  This is all a look we can go for in the new year!

Metallics, Sequins and Everything Sparkly

What will you be wearing when the ball drops?

I am still on the search for my perfect NYE outfit!  Yesterday I ventured out to another mall and came home with nothing!  Ok maybe not nothing, but nothing for NYE!!  I have the this problem of making up what I want in my head or seeing something in a magazine or on TV and searching for it at the mall.  I never seem to find what I am looking for.  Usually every year I am out searching for a dress, not this time.  I though since we are going to my friends house I would be a bit more casual this year.  You would think it wouldn't be that hard to find the perfect sparkly top to wear with skinny jeans since it is the holidays but you're wrong!

Ever since watching E! News the other day I have had this top in my head.  This would be my perfect NYE top! But it is no where to be found...even on the internet.  It is not fair that Giuliana got this cute Parker top before it hit the stores.  I was in search for something even similar but didn't find a thing!  Of course since I don't want a dress I found a bunch of cute ones.  Isn't that how it always works!?

Here are some great options for NYE if you are getting all dolled up or just going to a casual party like I am but still want to be festive.

Hostess with the Mostest

After work today I ran to the mall to look for a last minute New Years Eve outfit.  After trying on and trying on...I found nothing.  So my blog today will not be about finding a fabulous NYE outfit because that is a sore subject. I am hoping I have better luck tomorrow.

Still on the NYE topic, I have been searching for the perfect appetizer to bring to the New Years Eve party I am going to at my friends house.  As my friends know, I always look to my friend Martha Stewart for some great ideas.  Everything I have made from her website so far have been great hits!  This is a good thing but adds some pressure to continue to impress my friends!  Below are a couple of my favorites and some ideas I am thinking about for this weekend.

While looking for an appetizer to share I also found great drink ideas and decorations.  This stuff gets me so excited!  Even though I am not hosting the party this year, here are some great ideas for people who are.

Drink ideas:

Champagne with Grapes

Sorbet and Champagne Cocktails

Raspberry Chocolate Kiss
This looks so good!!

Decoration ideas:

Beautiful Streamers

Center Piece
Party Hats

There are many more wonderful hosting ideas on marthastewart.com for NYE or any occasion for that matter.  I am now very excited to spend Friday with the greatest company possible, my closest friends that I have had since junior high and high school.  Hopefully tomorrow I will have better luck finding something fun to wear.  I am curious to see what this new year will bring us now that we will all be moving to the 20's that bring us closer 30.  I see more wedding bells in the near future for many of my close friends.  Next year should be exciting, fun and fabulous!

Roaring 20's

After spending last weekend at my parents for the holidays I can't stop thinking about my love for 1920's fashion.  My sister brought home her Gene Kelly DVD collection and my favorite movie we watched was Singin' in the Rain.  I have been in love with the 20's for a while and wish that if I could have lived in another decade it would have been then.  In college I wrote my huge final english paper on women's fashion in the 20's. While watching the movie my sister was intrigued by how they got their hair in the fabulous finger waves and curls.  I am sure it took a lot longer than me straightening my hair everyday!  I love the red lips and beautiful dresses.

A more resent move that had great costumes from the 1920's was Changeling with Angelina Jolie.  She has the perfect lips for the red lipstick!  She wears a beautiful cloche while in the movie. When shopping a few weeks ago I found a couple cloches at White House Black Market.  I am a sucker for hats so of course I had to try them on.  I didn't buy one because I couldn't think of where I would wear it but I am still thinking about them!

Here are some celebrity 1920's looks that you could steal make-up or hair ideas from to get the look.   Wearing a cloche, red lips or finger waved hair is a great way to bring back the 20's.  I would recommend just doing one at a time so you don't look in costume!

These could be some great ideas to add to your NYE outfit.  Even if it is just a pop of red lips you will stand out in a crowd!

Long skirts

The long skirt is another trend that we will see through another season.  This winter we have seen long skirts in heavier fabrics like velvet, etc.  In the spring we will see more bohemian style long light weight skirts. This is another style that you can wear from day into night, dressed up or dressed down.  Miranda Kerr was seen wearing her long skirt as a casual look while running around town.  Kelly Osbourne on the other hand wore here velvet skirt dressed up to an event.  When searching online retailers for the perfect long skirt I found many at shopbop.com.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas!  I hope everyone is enjoying their Christmas with their family like I am.  Today I woke up and opened all of the presents with my family by the fireplace.  It was fun to watch everyone open their gifts and be happily surprised! I love all of the thoughtful things I received! After we enjoyed sausage egg bake and apple french toast for breakfast...I will be full for days!!  Today will be filled with a lot of laying around, watching movies, reading, taking naps, and baking food for another Christmas celebration tomorrow! My family's Christmas day tradtion is to hang out in our pajamas all day.  Sticking with our tradition I thought I would find some great PJ ideas for everyone.  I love the selection at Victoria's Secret and here are a few of my favorites:
